Topic: When Race Is Erased, Harm Does Not Disappear
Across institutions and communities, language connected to racial healing, racial equity, diversity, poverty, immigration, and marginalized communities are increasingly being removed, softened, or avoided. Yet changing the language does not change the lived realities of racism, inequity, exclusion, or harm.
Join RCC members for a 90-minute community practice exploring what this moment requires of retreat centers. Through somatic reflection, courageous questions, small-group dialogue, and collective learning, participants will examine how race, white privilege, dominant cultural values, funding, and institutional choices shape our work.
This is not a webinar or a condensed racial healing retreat. It is an invitation to tell the truth, remain present through discomfort, and discern how retreat centers can sustain spaces for healing, dignity, belonging, accountability, and liberation.
Bio: Arleen N. Peterson is a seasoned nonprofit executive, community organizer, racial healing facilitator, and social justice practitioner with more than two decades of leadership experience. She serves in executive leadership for Relational Services with the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, supporting communications, philanthropy, and retreat center initiatives. Arleen integrates somatic and embodiment practices into her work with racial healing, equity, organizational transformation, and community leadership. She holds an Executive Certificate in Religious Fundraising and an Embodiment Social Justice Certificate.
