Topic: Equity practices for co-building brave spaces

Over many years working in equity justice, anti-racism work and restorative land justice, I've experienced and contributed to crunchy and tender moments in my circles. Systemic violence & barriers keep us divided, pinging off one another. I'm convinced that we are being called to deepen our personal and collective practices to learn how to better be in step.

This dialogue is a way to playtest some practices I've been working on sharing in plain language. To be in step, we need to be practiced in a few good questions/intentions:

  • I hear you

  • We have you

  • I wonder…

  • My bad

Of course, each of these is a set of practices but let's start by sharing what they are and how to deepen them in our retreat centre circles. Holding each other at this time, especially through the crunchy and tender, is part of the world we deserve.

Bio: Nanci Lee (she/her). I'm a Chinese-Syrian poet, movement/wellness coach & strategist based in Kjipuktuk/Halifax, Canada. Some of you know me from RCC as former ED of Tatamagouche Centre. The Centre is going through a molting. Powerfully in the process of Rematriating the land & facilities to Women of First Light, an Indigenous Women's charity here in Wabanaki. In a molt myself, I support retreat centres & orgs with strategic governance, equity practices part time. Part time, I focus on spiritual and wellness practices. I believe, more than ever, in the power of esp. rural gathering places to heal our disconnection to the land, ourselves and each other. Part of the world we deserve.
